ΠΕΡΙΛΗΨΗ

The Monastery of Theotokos Pammakaristos (The All Blessed Mother of God) was founded during the Middle Byzantine period, but additional buildings were added during the rule of the Palaeologan dynasty. The monastery is best known for its funerary side chapel (parekklesion) which is one of the best examples of Late Byzantine architecture and mosaic decoration in Constantinople, as well as for serving as the seat of the Patriarchate of the Greek Orthodox Church in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
