ΠΕΡΙΛΗΨΗ
Distinguished ship-owning family from Ithaca (Ithaki) during the 19th and 20th centuries. The Stathatos house, lead by Othon Stathatos, dominated shipping and grain trade in the Danube area. In collaboration with the Theophilatos family, they led Greek shipping to the new steam age by building the first Greek iron freighter in 1871. The Stathatos house, at the same time, was active in the field of benefaction. |
