ΠΕΡΙΛΗΨΗ
Danube port with heavy commercial and maritime traffic especially after 1856, when the European Commission of the Danube completed infrastructure works around the mouth of the river. Particularly potent demographically, socially and financially, the Greek paroikia in town operated a church and schools for both boys and girls. It declined, however, as did the whole city, during the Interwar period due to a cut-back in the river-boats’ routes there and the ascent of the competitive port of Constanţa. |
