ΠΕΡΙΛΗΨΗ
The two Arabian sieges of Constantinople (674-678 and 717/718), together with the victory of the Frankish army chief Charles Martel over the Arabs at the Battle of Poitiers in 732, are events of great significance in European history. Unlike Persia, which succumbed to the Arab warriors after fierce struggle and efforts to resist for a few decades (634-674), the Byzantine Empire managed to defy the Arabs who seriously threatened the capital on Bosporus. Thus the Arabian invasion in the southeast parts of the European continent was halted. |
